Mangaluru: Monsoon picks up after a brief lull

Mangaluru, Jun 11: The monsoon that had entered the district a week back had weakened in later days due to the effect of the cyclonic storm. It has now picked up momentum.

The meteorological department has predicted that rainfall will register a marked increase beginning from Thursday, June 11. As a result, the temperature in coastal Karnataka is set to dip.

Meteorological expert in the University of Agricultural Sciences Bengaluru, Dr Rajegowda, said that the monsoon, which was affected by the movement of 'Nisarga' cyclonic storm recently, will become stronger in the coming days and coastal areas of the state are expected to get heavy rains.

On Wednesday, different parts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu districts received good rains. The meteorological department has said in a prediction that is valid till Friday morning that most parts of coastal Karnataka and several areas in interior Karnataka will get good rainfall.
