Mangaluru: MLA U T Khader urges district admin, govt to resolve central market issue

Mangaluru, Jun 9: MLA U T Khader urged the district administration, MLA and MP to resolve the confusion over resuming business at central market.

Addressing the media here on Tuesday June 9, U T Khader said, "Due to unclear decisions, a lot of confusion is created over resuming business at central market. During the corona lockdown, the vegetable wholesalers and retailers were shifted to APMC Baikampady, but were not given any clarity on if it was permanent shifting. Government should inform the traders about their intentions to avoid this confusion."

The vendors and retailers were shifted to APMC Baikampady without making any proper arrangements. The decision was taken under Ponnuraj as in-charge but no one seemed to be taking the responsibility to resolve the issue now that confusions and problems are occurring, Khader said.

"Traders need to be given proper arrangements to start their business. At the same time, the district administration should clarify in writing regarding the same,” he said.

As the government has come up with new decisions over quarantine exempting institutional quarantine for people coming from Maharashtra, the decision would create a sense of fear and danger among families and in the neighbourhood. There would also be chances of neighbours complaining about the same, Khader said.

Considering the chaos and anxiety the returnees from Maharashtra could cause, Khader said the returnees would have to undergo seven days of institutional quarantine.

"We have set up nodal office at Belma gram panchayat under Mangaluru constituency. All those coming from other states to Mangaluru constituency will be undergoing seven days of quarantine. We have made all arrangements for the same. This will avoid fear among families as well neighbours," he said.
