Mandya, Jun 8: Minister Narayana Gowda was travelling by his car when a roadside boulder suddenly exploded into pieces. He narrowly escaped being hit by the pieces of the boulder. This incident happened on Sunday June 7 near Bankapur in Nagamangala taluk in the district.

Road widening work between Bengaluru and Jalsoor is in progress. The minister was moving towards K R Pet when a boulder was exploded by the road contractor by using explosives. The minister was taken aback by the sheer recklessness of the concerned about the wellbeing of road users.

The minister ordered the immediate arrest of the contractor. Contractor Srinivas Raj from Mysuru was arrested immediately. The police are looking into the issue.

Boulders are exploded normally during night. Even in cases when blasting is necessary during the day, traffic is stopped for a considerable distance on both sides beforehand. There was high chance of a stone getting lodged in the minister’s car but he had providential escape. No one was injured in the incident.
