Kundapur, Feb 2: The people living in the vicinity of both Panchagangavali and Sauparnika Rivers in the taluk have become a worried lot since Sunday January 31 night, as both the rivers have swelled all of a sudden.
The salt water of these rivers has entered the agricultural fields and a few plantations in places like Kannadakudru, Moovattumudi, Uppinakudru, Arate etc. This sudden and unexpected swell of the rivers has given rise to grave concerns. In local parlance, this rare phenomenon is known as ‘Kalnir’ in the fishermen circles.
The people are afraid, that floods might occur if the levels of these rivers do not recede in a couple of days. At the same time, they have discounted the rumours about the possibility of tsunami having caused this phenomenon.
