Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 5: On the 73rd day of the lockdown, eight new cases of novel coronavirus were reported in Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Friday June 5. As many as 204 cases were detected in Udupi. Twelve and 24 people who were cured were discharged in DK and Udupi district respectively.
As reported earlier, eight people tested positive in Dakshina Kannada, seven are Maharashtra returnees while the source of infection of one more person yet to be traced. Among the eight positive patients, seven are males aged 24, 36, 48, 52, 58 and two aged 43 each and a female aged 60 whose source of infection is yet to traced. Twelve people including eight males and four females who had cured were discharged on Friday.
In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 42,801 people have been screened so far. A total of 9,330 samples have been sent for tests so far, out of which reports of 9,045 have tested negative, and 151 positive, excluding 10 persons from another district. Out of these, 56 are currently active. As many as 88 persons have recovered and been discharged, and seven deaths have occurred so far.
As many as 84 samples were sent for testing on Friday. Reports of 100 samples were received on Friday, of which eight were positive and 92 negative.
Reports of 50 samples are awaited. As many as 10 people have been admitted for observation.
A total of 4,758 people have been treated at fever clinics so far. On Friday, three cases of severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) were reported.
Udupi
As many as 204 cases were reported in the district on Friday. All 204 have come from Maharashtra. The 204 include 157 males, 40 females and seven children. As many as 203 of them had come from Maharashtra while the remaining one is a police personnel who was working at a check post in the district. Twenty-four people who had cured were discharged on Friday.
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,270 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including 39 on Friday, and a total of 4,829 have completed 14 days of quarantine, including nine on Friday. As many as 115 persons are currently in home quarantine and another 279 are under institutional quarantine.
Altogether, three high-risk persons and four low-risk persons are under hospital quarantine. A total of 68 people are in isolation wards, including 14 fresh admissions on Friday. Among them, three are coronavirus suspects, while 11 have SARI.
As many as 758 people, including 10 on Friday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 12,528 samples have been collected so far, including eight on Friday. Out of them, 10,992 samples have turned out to be negative, including 767 on Friday, and 769 reports are awaited. As many as 767 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district. A total of 132 among them have been discharged, and 634 are active. One death has occurred so far.
According to district health officer Sudhir Chandra Sooda, the highest number of patients hail from Byndoor. As many as 161 people from Byndoor have tested positive and 102 among them have been shifted to a temporary COVID-19 hospital in Kollur. A total of 137 places have been declared as containment zones in the district. As many as 1,200 beds are ready to accommodate patients in the district, he informed.
