Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 5: Eight coronavirus cases were detected in Dakshina Kannada (DK) while cases 204 people tested positive in Udupi on Friday June 5.
In the eight people tested positive in Dakshina Kannada, seven are Maharashtra returnees while the source of infection of one more person yet to be traced.
Among the eight positive patients, seven are males aged 24, 36, 48, 52, 58 and two aged 43 each and a female aged 60 whose source of infection is yet to traced.
With this the total number of cases have increased to 151 in DK. Seventy-six among them have been discharged, and 68 are active. Seven deaths have occurred so far.
As many as 204 people including 157 males, 40 females and seven children, tested positive in Udupi on Friday. A total of 203 had come from Maharashtra while the one remaining is a police personnel who was working at a check post in the district.
With the new cases detected, as many as 767 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in Udupi district. A total of 108 among them have been discharged, and 658 are active. One death has occurred so far.
“More than 2,000 samples were tested. As many as 8,500 people have entered the district from various other places. Tests are being conducted and is nearing to completion. In a few days, the positive cases which are on the rise, will be under control. A total of 350 people from outstation states have already registered to travel to Udupi in the next few days,” said deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha.
