Panaji, Jan 28 (IANS) Goa police Thursday released a photograph of a man who they suspect is involved in the rape of a nine-year old Russian girl.
"The photograph of the suspect has been flashed to all police stations and police outposts on the state's border and put up in prominent places in coastal areas and major towns," a police spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said that the suspect was in all likelihood a non-Goan and in his twenties.
The mother of the nine-year-old girl, who was raped by a tourist in north Goa's popular Arambol beach, has submitted a detailed report to the Russian consulate in Mumbai and the follow-up action taken by the police.
Meanwhile, the state chief secretary has sent a detailed report of the Russian rape case to the union tourism ministry.
Speaking to reporters, Chief Minister Digamber Kamat said Union Tourism Minister Kumari Selja had spoken to him Wednesday and had asked the government for a detailed report on the security of tourists in the state.
"I had asked the chief secretary to compile a report and send it to the central tourism ministry. He has done it," Kamat said.
