Udupi, Jan 28: Manipal University (MU) honoured 95 employees who completed 25 years of service in the MU at a function held at Fortune Inn Valley View, here on Tuesday January 26.
Speaking on the occasion, MU chancellor and president Dr Ramdas M Pai congratulated the employees for their dedication and urged the students to keep the Manipal flag flying wherever they went.
He disclosed a University Grants Commission (UGC) survey report which placed MU in Category A along with 38 deemed universities in the country which had every facility and fulfilled all criteria to UGC specifications.
Pro-chancellor Dr H S Ballal said that the MU was very particular about the quality. “Infrastructure is what it is, but what makes for a good institution are the faculty and students,” he said. He impressed upon the students in particular and all present to give their best to take MU to higher level.
In all 51 meritorious students who have done well at the entrance examinations of 2009-10 were given certificates of merit making them eligible for scholarship to pursue undergraduate courses. Two best foster awards were also given for research in the health science category and combined technical and management category. The award was introduced with the intent of giving a boost to research in MU.
A research scholar, Sanjiban Chakrabarty of Manipal Life Sciences Centre and Dhanya Sunil, a lecturer in the department of chemistry, Manipal Institute of Technology, were the awardees.
The registrar, Dr G K Prabhu welcomed the gathering.
