Byndoor, May 28: An incident in which the medical officer of Byndoor taluk government hospital, Dr Mahendra Shetty, reportedly attacked Anjappa Sogi, village accountant of Bijoor village physically, ended amicably with the accused doctor tendering an apology.

A meeting to sort out the issue was held under the leadership of assistant commissioner, K Raju, on Thursday May 28, in the presence of the village accountants association and taluk medical officer. Dr Mahendra Shetty publicly apologise for the incident.

Bijoor village accountant, Anjanappa Sogi, under orders from higher ups, has been functioning since the last three months at the toll gate. He was entrusted with the work of checking passengers coming from outside the state and sending them to institutional quarantine centre. He also was serving at the quarantine centre. As he had suspicion about his health condition, he visited Byndoor taluk community health centre at 11 am on May 27 duly wearing the identity card issued by the revenue department. He met the medical officer for getting tested for the presence of coronavirus. He told the medial officer on duty that he is a revenue department employee and he wanted to get tested for COVID 19. The doctor got wild all of a sudden, used obscene words against him, and pushed him out by holding his collar, it is said.
Reportedly, the doctor also snatched away his mobile phone and physically beat him up. These details were mentioned in a letter sent by the Byndoor taluk unit of Karnataka State Village Accountants Association to the deputy commissioner of the district.

The association severely condemned the misbehaviour of the doctor and asked the deputy commissioner to initiate disciplinary action against the doctor. A meeting of village accountants association, taluk medical officer, and the doctor concerned was convened on Thursday under the supervision of the assistant commissioner. The issue was sorted out and all the concerned agreed not to pursue the case further.
