Mangaluru: Shramik special trains run during lockdown period

Mangaluru, May 28: In the backdrop of COVID-19, thousands of migrant labourers were stranded in the Konkan region on account of the lockdown.

On request of the respective state governments namely Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra, Konkan Railways operated a large number of Shramik special trains for ferrying stranded migrant labourers from the Konkan region to their respective states.

To date, Konkan Railways operated 50 Shramik special trains (from Udupi, Madgaon, Thivim, Karmali, Sindudurg, Ratnagiri and Chiplun stations) to different destinations of UP, Jharkhand, Bihar, WB and others and ferried 67,178 passengers.
