Dharwad, May 27: Deputy chief minister Laxman Savadi, who also is minister or transport, said that depending on the availability of passengers, the government will start to run night services. He was speaking to media persons after holding meeting with officials of the department at the Northwest Road Transport Corporation office here on Tuesday May 26.

"We have allowed buses to run at night for the convenience of passengers going to destinations that are far off. The services will be run on the basis of passenger availability. Further steps will be taken on the basis of new guidelines to be issued by the central government on June 1, he explained.

The minister, who initially seemed to indicate that fare hike is imminent, seemed to change his mind when the media persons persisted with questions. He said that at present there is no proposal for fare hike.
