Mangaluru: Fishing boat capsizes - Nine fishermen rescued

Mangaluru, May 27: A fishing boat hit the protective wall and capsized near the estuary of the old port in the city on Tuesday, May 26. All the nine fishermen in the boat were rescued by the policemen of Coastal Security Police Force and local fishermen.

Rakesh owner of the boat and resident of Mangaladevi, Tamil Nadu workers Pandyaraj and Shantavelu, Ummer from Gujarat, Mithun from Chhattisgarh, Krishna Sandeep from Belagavi, Kumar from Odisha, and Dheeraj and Deekshit from Padubidri escaped from danger due to the timely rescue.

The boat along with fishermen had left the old port for fishing on Monday night. On Tuesday morning, the boat was returning with its catch of fish when the tragedy occurred near the estuary. The impact of the collision was so great that water had gushed into the boat.

Coastal Police Force personnel, who came to know about the incident, rushed to the spot and rescued the fishermen with the help of local fishermen. The boat was pulled to the Bengre beach.
