Bengaluru: Post lockdown, tourism sector remains paralyzed - Many face closure

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 26: Almost all the sectors are showing signs of slowly limping back to normalcy after lockdown rules were relaxed to some extent. But travel agencies have not been showing any vibrancy because of lacklustre response from the customers who seem to be reluctant for the time being to undertake any travel.

Summer months would normally prove to be busy for travel agencies on account of summer holidays but this year they went without any business from March to May this year. Now they have opened their doors for business, but people are afraid to undertake any travel at least for a few months now. Many of the travel agencies have not opened their doors for the fear that unproductive expenditure will rise whereas income generation will remain a far cry.

Even the world over, tourism, which provides employment to lacs of people, is in doldrums. As per an estimate, the state has around 3,000 travel agencies and many depend on income from their taxies hired by tourists to feed their families. May work as travel guides whereas some hotels and cottage industries totally depend on business from tourists. Because of social distance norms and sanitization rules, running of vehicles has become a losing proposition. Under these circumstances, there is a demand for concessions and incentives to inject some vigour in an industry that will take months to recover from the corona affect.
