Bengaluru, May 26: As many as 50 dogs will be adopted and inducted in the Dog Squad for Rs 2.5 crore to strengthen the state police force, Bangalore City police commissioner Bhaskar Rao said on Tuesday.
 
Inaugurating the newly upgraded Dog Activity Park at CAR (South) in Adugodi, Koramangala in the city, the Bengaluru police chief said that the Dog Squad plays an important role in the detection of explosives, drugs and detection of clues at the scene of the crime.
 
He said it was the aim of the department to give the dogs the best training possible to further strengthen the existing team and therefore the Dog Activity Park where the dogs are trained has been upgraded under the leadership of deputy commissioner of police, CAR (South) and ACP Ninga Reddy Patil.

Bhaskar Rao said it was decided to hire the services of renowned dog psychologist Amrut Hiranya, popularly known as ‘dog guru’. Hiranya has agreed to take up the task of upgrading the Dog Squad.
 
He said that the Dog Activity Park was built by the efforts of the police staff. The government grant of Rs 2.5 crore has been sanctioned to add more dogs to the kennel.
 
The police commissioner said that plans are underway to appoint female police constables as dog handlers in the near future.
 
On the occasion, police dogs showcased state-of-the-art techniques such as vehicle hijacking, explosives and drug detection, anti-terrorist and Naxal warfare activities.
