Mangalore, Jan 23: The three officials of the public works department (PWD) here, who had been suspended after having been arrested by the Lokayukta policemen on the charges of demanding bribes from contractors, were suspended again through an order dated January 18.
As per the Lokayukta instructions, executive engineer of PWD, Narasimharaju, assistant executive engineer, Lokesh Kumar, and assistant engineer, Santosh Kumar, had been suspended after the Lokayukta policemen arrested them for allegedly accepting bribes while releasing bills of contractors on September 8, 2009. However, they were later reinstated in their respective positions.
State Lokayukta, Justice Santosh Hegde, is learnt to have taken umbrage to the department’s act of reinstating the officials facing charges of corruption. After he interfered in the matter, the officials have been suspended again.
