Karkala, Jan 22: Speaking after inaugurating the valedictory ceremony of the golden jubilee celebrations of Sri Bhuvanendra College here on Thursday January 21, retired vice-chancellor of Karnatak University Dharwad, Dr S Rame Gowda, revealed that none of the Indian universities figure in the list of the 200 best universities in the world. “Several fake Indian universities are continuing with the practice of selling fake PhD degrees,” he added.
“As against about 1.25 lac engineering graduates who came out of the colleges ten years ago, nearly nine lac such graduates are annually produced at present in the country. At the same time, the number of students pursuing basic sciences has come down steeply. There is a need for a scientific education that orients the students towards creativity and research,” he stressed.
Academy of General Education, Manipal, president N Krishna Rao, president of the college governing council, S Rajagopalachar, principal, Prof B Padmanabha Gowda, PU College principal, Ramesh S P, Raghavendra Achar, Prof M Ramachandra, etc., were present.
On this occasion, senior superintendent of the postal department, A Prakash, released the special envelope brought out by the department. A souvenir titled ‘Honnadeepa’ was also released. The teaching staff members of the college were honoured. Prof Jayaprakash Mavinakuli compered the programme.
