Udupi, May 23: A 53-year-old man who had come from Mumbai was infected with coronavirus infection. He breathed his last at Manipal hospital due to heart attack. Tragically, neither his wife nor his children could have one last glimpse of him or take part in his funeral. Because, all of them have been infected with this disease.
The husband, wife and three children are natives of Kundapur. They had returned to their hometown on May 13 from Mumbai. The person suffered heart attack in quarantine on the same day after he was admitted there. He passed away at KMC Hospital Manipal on May 14. On May 16, it was confirmed that he had coronavirus infection. Immediately thereafter, 57 people who had accompanied him in the bus and were quarantined and subjected to tests. It was found that the 51-year-old wife of the deceased, 26-year-old daughter, and two sons aged 21 and 24 were found infected. They are now under treatment at COVID hospital.
The funeral of the deceased was performed at the graveyard at Beedinagudde as per COVID rules. His wife and children however could not witness the cremation.
Two girls aged 4 and 15 who were in the same bus, too have been found infected. Twenty-four persons have now been identified to be having direct contact with the girls. This has added to the district administration’s worry.
