One arrested test positive, Bengaluru road sealed


Bengaluru, May 22 (IANS): The city civic body, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has sealed off a Bengaluru road after one person arrested tested positive for Covid-19, an official said on Friday.

"A road in Vinayak Nagar, JJ Nagar Ward 139 has been sealed after an arrested person tested positive (for Covid)," tweeted BBMP Commissioner B.H. Anil Kumar.

Kumar said the area, Second Cross of Old Gudadahalli in JJ Nagar Ward 136 pipeline, was completely sealed off following the Covid case discovery.

"Cautioned elderly, pregnant and those (people) with co-morbidities to remain indoors," said Kumar.

The Commissioner, Special Commissioner M. Lokesh and Covid War Room special officer Hephsiba Rani Korlapati visited the Vinayak Nagar road to take stock of the situation.

Bengaluru Urban is grappling with 127 active Covid cases.

Meanwhile, BBMP has collected a total fine of Rs 3.43 lakh from people not wearing a mask amid the pandemic in the city.

"The government of Karnataka has fixed Rs 200 as fine for not wearing masks or face coverings in public places," he said.

Among eight zones, the civic body has collected the highest penalty from the East zone, Rs 1.16 lakh, where 584 individual violated the mask rules.

Since May 5, a total of 1,715 people without masks have been fined.
