Bengaluru, May 22: Well-known classical singer and music composer Shamala G Bave titled Gana Visharade passed away on Friday morning at 6.30 am. She was an expert in all forms of classical music.

Her body is kept at her residence for last respects. The last rites will be held at Chamarajapete crematorium here. Her family members have requested fans to cooperate due to on-going lockdown restrictions.

Shamala G Bave was born on March 14, 1941. Her father, Acharaya Pandith Govind Vittal Bave had started Sarasvathi Sangeeta Vidyalaya music school at Nehru circle, Sheshadripura in 1930. Her mother was Laxmi G Bave.

Shamala had begun singing when she was six years old. She learnt music in the school started by her father. She had complete command over Carnatic and Hindustani music. She took over in 1953 the complete responsibility of the music school started by her father. Having come from the family of expert Hindustani musicians, Shamala performed on stage when she was just six years old.
