Puttur, May 22: Tahsildar Ramesh Babu, said that the taluk administration has learnt that the locals are posing threats to people providing food to the people who are undergoing quarantine. He said that such people will face criminal case under Disaster Management Act and be imprisoned.
"People from Karnataka who got trapped in other states on account of coronavirus were allowed by the government to return home. Such people undergo 14 days quarantine. In Puttur taluk, government quarantine for 121 persons and private one for 13 have been made," he stated.
He explained that locals and family or relatives are allowed to serve food to the people in quarantine. He lamented the fact that there are several reports of creating problems for people bringing such food. He said that the people in quarantine are our own and creating problems for them cannot be tolerated.
"Those in quarantine do not have coronavirus infection. It is not proper to create hassles for people providing food to them," he opined. He said that police department will act against some locals who had threatened a person who used to supply food to 15 persons who are quarantined at the residential school at Balnad here. He also narrated that gram panchayats provide food to those quarantined at village level, and taluk panchayat provides the same at taluk level.
The tahsildar visited quarantine facilities at Balnad residential school and Kombettu boys’ hostel at Kombettu and verified the facilities. Revenue inspector Ravikumar, taluk panchayat executive officer Shivaprakash Adpangaya, and principal of Morarjee Residential School were present.
