Panaji, Jan 18: Bharatiya Janata party’s students’ cell managed to force Goa university withdraw the circular asking its post graduate students to participate in the convention to be addressed by congress youth leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, Jan 19.

Youth leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to interact with Goa university students at university ground.

“The circular dated January 18, 2010 with respect to interaction of students with Rahul Gandhi, member of parliament, on January 19, 2010 is hereby withdrawn,” another circular signed by university registrar Dr M M Sangodkar reads.

BJP took strong objection to university forcing its students to participate in the political function and gheraod Sangodkar this afternoon.

“We strongly protested the university’s decision to allow political function on their ground and forcing the students to attend it. We have also told him that no flags of political party will be allowed to be displayed in the campus,”   BJP’s Goa yuva morcha president, Rupesh Mahatme, said.

The BJP delegation requested the varsity to ``keep the temple of knowledge away from political activities.’’

Sangodkar said that it was told to the organizers in advance that no flags would be allowed in the campus.

“We also withdrew the circular, which was earlier issued asking post graduate students to attend the convention,” the registrar informed.

“We never forced the students to attend the convention.. The circular had said that if the students can join the convention if they want,” Sangodkar clarified.

Rahul Gandhi, who will be arriving in the state tomorrow evening, will meet youth congress executive members and also Pradesh congress committee after the convention at Goa University.
