Mangaluru, May 19: In the incident in which a boat turned turtle when fixing pipeline of reverse osmosis plant of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd in the Arabian Sea near Tannirbavi, it has been confirmed that one of the two persons who went missing is dead. The other person has not been traced so far.
While Santhosh Poojary (35) from Palpady in Panapila village died, Hariprabhakar (30) from Mumbai is reported to be missing. Three among those who went missing were rescued.
A company Yojaka, has been executing the contract work for setting up a reverse osmosis plant. During the pipeline laying work of the plant, a five-member team was sent into the sea. At around 7 pm, when returning, the boat capsized due to strong wind. Out of five who went missing, three were rescued immediately. Santhosh and Hariprabhakar were then reported to have gone missing.
The rescue boat of the company during the search operation found Santhosh Poojary in serious condition. By the time he was brought to the shore, he had lost his life. Santhosh reportedly has left behind a wife and two children.
Coastal Security Force boat has been searching for the other missing man, Hariprabhakar.
Relating to the incident, a case was registered in Panambur station against the company executing the contract of sending workers into the sea despite the warning issued by the district administration about the possibility of strong wind.
