Bagalkot, May 17: DCM Govinda Karjol has instructed the concerned officers to issue job cards and ration cards to migrant labourers who have come from different parts of the country to the state seeking a job.
Speaking to the reporters in the city, Karjol said that he has instructed the officials to issue ration card immediately to migrant labourers who do not possess one.
Union and state governments have declared special packages to migrant labourers who are facing difficulty due to lockdown. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a special package of Rs 20 lac crore, Karnataka state government has declared a three-phase financial package of Rs 2,227 crore. DCM Karajola has expressed his happiness over this announcement by CM Yediyurappa.
"More than 30,000 migrant labourers who had gone to other states to earn their livelihood have come back to the state. Out of 1,000 labourers from Maharashtra 571 are already back in the state. Action is being taken to give them job under Udyoga Khatri scheme. Besides, they have been placed under home quarantine also," said Karjol.
The DCM further said, "The union government has provided Rs 204 crore under Udyoga Khatri scheme to the district of Bagalkot. So I have instructed the officials to provide employment locally to migrant labourers. The rate of Jowar grown by the farmers has gone down. CM has decided to give compensation of Rs 5,000 to such farmers. Nearly 61,000 farmers of the district will benefit from this."
