Applications invited from auto-rickshaw, taxi drivers for compensation

Bengaluru, May 16: Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa has announced a one-time compensation of Rs 5,000 each to 7,75,000 auto-rickshaw drivers and taxi drivers who have lost their daily earnings due to Covid-19 related lockdown.

The government in a press release dated May 16 has invited applications from eligible drivers through Seva Sindu app for payment of the compensation subject to the following conditions:

1. The applications will be receiving only through Seva Sindu app

2. The drivers should have driving license and vehicle fitness certificate valid on March 3, 2020.

3. Aadhar card, driving license and vehicle registration certificates should be valid.

4. The benefit is applicable only to auto and taxi drivers. Maxi cabs are not eligible for compensation.

5. The payment will be remitted only to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries by DBT.

6. Some people own more number of vehicles. If the amount is remitted to such owners, the drivers will be deprived of the payment. Therefore, to avoid duplication or double payment, the Aadhar card or
PAN cards of the drivers should be linked separately to the bank accounts.

7. There should be no communication between the government and the beneficiaries or middlemen at any stage.

8. The commissioner of traffic and road safety should make sure that the above conditions are followed.

The expenditure will be included in the twenty crores released in the 2020-21 year’s budget. More amounts will be released according to the need.
