Bhatkal, May 13: As corona cases have increased in Bhatkal, the number of people looking at residents with suspicion has increased. The family of a child who broke her hand and got her treated in Mangaluru is labelled as liars by some despite being innocent.
The six-year-old girl fell at night on April 10 and broke her hand. Bhatkal assistant commissioner and DySP consented to rush the child to Kundapur. The family could not obtain pass at that juncture. It was past 12 midnight in efforts to look for diesel for the vehicle. Police stopped the vehicle at Shirur check post. The sub-inspector who saw the broken hand of the child contacted Kundapur DySP who permitted to allow the vehicle to pass. But the hospital doctors at Kundapur hospital said that the condition of the child is critical and suggested the family to rush her to Manipal or Mangaluru. They also issued a letter so that the vehicle may not be stopped at any check posts.
The family which reached Mangaluru hospital handed over letter issued by Kundapur hospital and Aadhar card to hospital staff. But the staff was apprehensive as Bhatkal was written in the letter. The staff was further suspicious as the mother of the child coughed twice. The throat swab of the mother has been sent for lab tests.
The surgery of the child’s hand was successful. But the propaganda that the child’s family has told lies to take the child to the hospital is spreading.
The child’s family has thanked the officials who helped to transport the child from Bhatkal to Mangaluru without pass, senior medical officers of Kundapur hospital, Kundapur Chinmaya hospital and the doctors in Mangaluru who saved the child by quick surgery.
