Mangaluru: WhatsApp group admin arrested for extorting money under pretext of politicians, police

Mangaluru, May 13: City Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested Rashid Kundadkla alias Abdul Rashi, group admin of Kanaka WhatsApp group on the accusation of extorting money from the public by misusing the names of police officers, media people and politicians.

A case is registered in Mangaluru East police station against the accused in which he extorted Rs 4 lac from an accused in the murder case of infamous rowdy and accused in a jewellery robbery case, Muttasim alias Taslim by promising the accused to get his name removed from the case through influence.
 

The CCB Police, who got the information from the accused from whom Rashid had extorted money, arrested Abdul Rashid alias Rashid Kundadka (39), son of late Mohammed Ali, a resident of Kundadka Mane, Puttila village of Beltangady taluk on Wednesday, May 13 and handed him over to Mangaluru East police station for further action.

Abdul Rasheed is the admin of WhatsApp group called 'Kanaka' in which he has added government officials, politicians and journalists and used to use that to extort money from the public. Some cases against the accused were also registered in Punjalakatte police station earlier. In addition, a rowdy sheeter file is also opened against Abdul Rashi in Punjalakatte police station.

Inspector of CCB Shivaprakash R Naik, PSI H D Kabbalraj and personnel were involved in the operation.
