Bengaluru, May 13: Commenting about the sudden transfer of P Manivannan, secretary in the departments of information and labour, labour minister Shivaram Hebbar, said that excessive use of social media can be dangerous when it exceeds one's purview and comprehension. He therefore advised those using technology to understand their limits and use technology judiciously. He seemed to be of the opinion that Manivannan's transfer was caused by pressure brought by social media.
Speaking to media persons, Hebbar said he is not aware why his department's secretary was transferred all of a sudden. He noted that Manivannan's pro-worker stand on social websites had given fodder for national level deliberations. "The department of labour has to function as a bridge between entrepreneurs and workers. Law has enough provisions to work in favour of workers but we have to take into account future prospects of the workers before taking any action," he said.
The minister said that all the workers coming in from outside the state would be quarantined.
Manivannan, who has been been known to be an efficient civil servant, reportedly drew flak from the entrepreneurs and industrialists lobby because of the stance owned by him. He had urged the owners to carry rent and other family maintenance expenses of workers during the lockdown period till the activities resumed.
