Udupi, May 11: “The government has announced a special package for those who are facing poverty due to lockdown but left out a few groups of workers from the compensation. The government has not announced any compensation to bus workers, hotel workers, goldsmiths etc and has forgotten them. Therefore, the government should announce a special package for them immediately,” said Kaup Yuva Congress president Melwyn D’Souza.
“People who were working in restaurants are facing problems due to lockdown. Some of them are at home for the last month without a salary. Jewelry shops were facing hardships even before lockdown. The lockdown has forced them to close shops for the last one month without income and they are unable to repay the loan.”
“Bus workers also do not have work as buses have stopped. While some of them are getting a salary, others do not have either jobs or salaries. The workers were living on daily wages. Therefore, they are not able to feed their families now. The government should come to their rescue and announce a special package to all of them,” urged advocate Melwyn D’Souza.
