Kasargod, May 10: In a huge relief for Kasargod and an achievement of sorts, the district which had once been the hub of coronavirus cases in Kerala state has now become free of all coronavirus cases.
Kerala on Sunday April 10 completed 100 days since the first coronavirus case was reported. The same day, Kasaragod district saw its last coronavirus-positive patient recover and get discharged from hospital. Now the district has zero active cases, with all the patients having recovered, and no deaths reported.
The last case has tested negative for coronavirus, Dr A V Ramdas district medical officer said. He added that officials are proud to have been able to cure all 178 COVID-19 patients in the district.
The first case in Kerala state was reported on January 30, after people who returned from China tested positive. Initially three cases were reported. Today, Kerala has totally reported 503 corona cases and four people have died so far. The recovery rate is 96.22% and mortality rate is 0.59%.
As many as 27,080 ASHA volunteers were involved in the fight against coronavirus. The state followed WHO guideline, that is 'test, isolate, trace and treat.'
A total of 73 lac people were given around Rs 1,000 from different funds, and 87.9 lac people were provided free ration and food kits to make sure no one went hungry.
The state government has declared Rs 20,000 crore package. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has been conducting daily press conferences to motivate the people.
As Kasargod had many cases, 273 medical staff was additionally provided and Kasargod medical college was made coronavirus special hospital.
Kerala also had the rarest of rare cases where an elderly couple aged 93 and 88 were cured of coronavirus.
The state assisted 1.44 lac migrant workers with free food and accommodation. As many as 66,000 anganwadi workers are taking care of 40.24 lac aged people.
