Kundapur, May 8: “Udupi district is leading in the state in the control of coronavirus due to the tireless efforts of the district administration, health department, police department and ASHA workers. Udupi district administration has become a model for this fight against COVID-19,” said former MLA K Gopala Poojary.
He was speaking to media representatives in Hemmadi on Friday. “Young people who have migrated to Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dubai and other places to look after their families are facing instability. It is the responsibility of the government to bring them back. Bring back the youth soon with precautions and avoiding problems,” urged Poojary.
“Most of the people outside the state and abroad are between ages 30 and 35. The district administration is already bringing young people from other places. Young people who return from other states should adhere to the directions of the district administration and be under quarantine before going home. There should be a close watch on the elders in the houses,” he said.
“People do not have jobs on the one hand. Prices are skyrocketing on the other. Increasing prices of petrol and diesel in these conditions is not right. People are facing financial problems by remaining at homes. The actions of the government are aggravating their problems,” he opined.
“Thousands of families are taken care of by one industry. All the businesses are hit now. Young people who are doing business are borrowing bank loan and thereby in deep trouble. The hotel industry is badly hit. The government should come forward to rescue entrepreneurs and workers. The families will fall on the streets otherwise,” lamented Poojary.
