Udupi, May 8: COVID-19 testing van operating in Kundapur is leading in many ways. The van is setting an example by providing service for COVID-19 testing.

It is being operated by the District Health and Family Welfare department. The van helps in collecting the samples of patients from the doorstep with all the precautionary measures.

It is setting an example in many other ways too. This van is running on solar power. The solar power system is arranged by Bharathiya Vikas Trust and SELCO Solar Light Private Ltd.

SELCO has installed the panel and has provided the electricity supply for the working of this kiosk.

The installation of solar panel costs around Rs 12,000 per kiosk and Bharathiya Vikas Trust has taken up the cost of installing it. The solar unit is efficient to provide electricity supply to two fans, one bulb and a mobile charging point. The system will help in collecting the samples during emergency situations. It can be also used in checkposts with ease as there will not be a necessity of an external source of electricity.

SELCO has been actively involved in many community development programs. It is helping people shift from a traditional source of energy to a new source of energy like solar energy. SELCO has also provided solar panels to a large scale of people across India to use in their day to day life.
