Udupi, May 8: Geetha Wagle of Mahila Congress of the district has appealed to B S Yediyurappa, chief minister of the state to waive off the loans of women, who have taken it under the Sthree Shakti scheme.

The letter says, "More than 80% of women who are engaged in the self-help groups of Sthree Shakti scheme belong to hunting community and lower middle class of the society. In addition, most of them are very poor agricultural labourers, beedi workers, employed in garments and cashewnut factories. By working in these self-help groups they earn meager income and help their families. In addition, they also pay the loan promptly.

"Due to the lockdown many of the women in these self-help groups have lost their jobs. So, on behalf of Udupi district women Congree committee, I request you to waive off their loans."
