Margao: Colva Church Seeks Govt Help

TOI

Margao, Jan 6:
The pastoral council of Colva church on Tuesday, January 5, sought government intervention to prevent any kind of attempt in future to cause religious hurt in the wake of the production of a controversial audio CD that led to agitation and violence in the coastal village.

The council, led by its moderator Jason Andrade, met the South Goa collector and the SP and DySP at the collector’s chamber and pointed out that incidents that lead to discord among a religious community or between communities make it difficult to maintain peace.

The collector, G P Naik, said he would convey to the government the sentiments and points raised by the delegation to find out some mechanism to avoid such incidents in society. The meeting was described as a coordinated attempt to maintain peace and tranquility in the wake of people’s ire in the backdrop of the CD’s release.

The collector said the DIG has already assured the parishioners agitated by the production of the CD that a proper investigation would be conducted. Besides, he pointed out the administration had taken prompt action regarding the telecast of certain objectionable aspects of the agitation that was aired when the people resorted to road blockade and violence.

“The order issued was with respect to certain aspects of the agitation that were aired and there was no ban order per se on covering any incident as such. The order was very specific in this regard,” the collector pointed out.
