Mangalore, Jan 5: For the first time in Karnataka, the blood bank of Kasturba Medical College Hospital here has been accorded the National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Healthcare Providers (NABH) Certificate. A function to present the certificiate will be held at 7.30 pm on Wednesday January 6, at Dr TMA Pai Convention Centre in the city.
MLA Yogish Bhat, pro chancellor of the Manipal University, Dr H S Ballal, and Rajan Padukone, chief executive officer of Manipal Health Systems, will participate as honorary guests of the function.
KMC Blood Bank was set up at the hospital facility at Ambedkar Circle here on October 2, 1991. This blood bank provides service all the 24 hours of the day. It is equipped with four blood storage refrigerators where 1,500 units of blood are being stored.
NABH is a national level institution that is driven by the aim to meet the high quality needs of the patients. The accreditation of NABH ensures high quality patient care and safety. NABH verifies the standard practices followed by the concerned institutions, for which documentary records have to be maintained. The set procedures and regulations as set by NABH have to be properly followed by the concerned institutions and NABH renews the certificates annually, after thoroughly checking as to whether all the rules, procedures and practices set by it are being properly followed.
