Mangalore, Jan 2: A delegation of Dakshina Kannada District BJP Committee met Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, V Ponnuraj, on Friday January 1, and submitted a memorandum, urging the Governor to initiate suitable steps against the legislators who behaved in a way that brought disgrace to the state assembly.
The delegation comprised district BJP president, Padmanabh Kottary, former president, Monappa Bhandary, MP Nalinkumar Kateel, cty south constituency BJP Committee president, Srikar Prabhu, general secretary, Sudhir Shetty and Vajranath Kalladka.
“It is shocking that the legislators climbed the seat of the acting speaker and tried to physically assault him. By inciting the speaker to violate the Governor’s notification to hold election for the post of the speaker, the opposition leaders have also shown disrespect to the seat of the Governor. This is a black spot in the political history of the state, and the guilty should be punished,” the memorandum demanded.
Through a press statement, the district unit of the BJP said that the Congress and JDS legislators, who had planned to ensure victory for their candidate, were disillusioned at the failure of their tactics to create confusion in the minds of the BJP legislators. They exhibited their culture by assaulting the presiding officer of the assembly, which is shameful. Moreover, the fact that after committing these excesses, the Congress and JDS legislators filed a complaint with the Governor is ridiculous,” it claimed.
