Panaji, Dec 28: Amidst the party scene hotting up in the state, Goa police’s Anti Narcotics cell arrested a 20 year old Nepali youth for possessing charas worth Rs 3 lac.
The raid was conducted at Thivim, a village 25 kms here from here during wee hours of sunday.
Police said that Motilal Singh Rokhaya was allegedly trafficking the drugs and was caught when he was waiting for the client.
The accused has been remanded to seven days police custody by a local court.
The raid came at the backdrop of party scene hotting up in the state. Local media reports claimed unabated rave parties happening in the coastal belt even as state police refused any such incidents.
“Entire law and order apparatus is alert. If we come to know about any drug parties, we crack down immediately,” a senior police officer said.
He said that the music parties are allowed till stipulated time in designated places. “There is no ban on the parties. But drugs are banned,” the officer explained.
Goa is witnessing a mad rush of people who are arriving here to celebrate New Year on the sandy beaches. The roads leading to beach belt gets jammed regularly in the evening.
The night life in the state is at its peak with beach belt in both the district getting ready to welcome the tourists.
Police have kept tight security with armed policemen guarding all the major venues and vital establishment. Goa police spokesman Atmaram Deshpande recently had said that there is no specific threat to the state while the alert is in general and precautionary nature.
