Bengaluru: ‘Lockdown might get extended till May 15’ – CM Yediyurappa

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SHP)

Bengaluru, Apr 27: Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Monday, April 27, held a video conference with chief ministers of different states regarding exit plans post the lockdown deadline on May 3. However, majority of the state heads felt it would not be wise to lift the lockdown entirely or allow inter-state movement from May 4.

Chief minister B S Yediyurappa, who was a part of the video conference, later said, "We have taken all precautions to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection. We will continue those measures. There is a possibility of the lockdown getting extended for two weeks after May 3. So it will be under lockdown till May 15. There is no answer from the prime minister for the opinion of the state government on zone-wise relaxation of lockdown. However, we completely support the decision of Prime Minister Modi.”

Earlier, the PM appreciated the efforts of the state leaders who have ensured strict vigil in their respective states. PM Modi also pointed out that the lockdown has contributed towards the prevention in the spread of the pandemic to a major extent.

In his opening remarks at the meeting in which nine chief ministers also spoke, Home Minister Amit Shah asked states to strictly implement the guidelines and enforce restrictions during the lockdown.

Shah also stated that the fight against the virus was a long battle which needs to be fought with patience.

In the Supreme Court separately, the MHA has already said migrants do not need to return to their villages.

Reportedly, during the 3-hour long meeting, majority of the state leaders expressed concern over the lack of resources to fight the virus amid lockdown. They also expressed the negative impact the lockdown was having on the economy.

Now, the challenges before the governments are to bring the derailed economy back on track and to ensure the safe return of the migrant workers back to their villages, who lately have been agitated and are displaying desperation to go back home. As per news reports, migrant workers in different states are even seen walking thousands of kilometres to reach their homes. To sort this issue, Maharashtra has requested special trains to ferry the migrant workers.

Meanwhile, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan who chose to skip the meeting is said to be submitting his views in writing. In his absence, Kerala was represented by state chief secretary, who said that state is not in favour of a blanket withdrawal of all restrictions after May 3 and will prefer a graded exit from the lockdown.

Among other things discussed, the state heads urged for ramping up tests. Earlier on Sunday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has stressed on increasing testing rate. He claimed that in India, it was the bottleneck which is discouraging the scaling up of tests. Further, he said that the PM had to address the issue of bottlenecks fast to combat the deadly virus.

Currently, Maharashtra has reported 29 per cent of the total coronavirus cases in the country and Gujarat accounted for 17 per cent of coronavirus deaths. Given the trend persisting in the country, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal are in favour of continuing lockdown for another month, with more relaxations. On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have agreed to follow the Centre's decision regarding the lockdown.

Few of the other concerns raised during the meeting were resuming activities in non-hotspot areas, running special trains to ferry migrant workers and making additional kits and PPE available to states. There are indications that any opening will be followed up with aggressive testing and tracing protocols to avoid the proliferation of new disease clusters.

Lockdown of 40 days has already led to loss of livelihood for thousands of poor people. Any extension will result in loss of jobs for middle class as well and may lead to Social unrest and loot.

For those sitting in comfy of their AC homes, lock down extension may not impact but for common middle class people already savings are exhausted and it is only getting difficult to lead a normal basic life.

“No more lockdown” should be the trend. But with precautionary approach.

The Karnataka BJP governemnt is only good for 'Operation Kamala' toppling government buying opposition winning candidates.
The India's poor state of Odhisha, is mananging the disaster so well that CM Naveen Patnaik announces Rs 2,200-crore package for welfare. The package will benefit about 1.64 crore people of the states total population of 4.5 crore. The Patnaik has donated three months’ salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and appealed to other lawmakers of the state to do the same.

The Kerala under communist are far better than Karnataka. The state in fully combat mode when the first case is reported. Not only Corona, Nepha virus is eradicated before it has spread to other states.

The Karnataka government only busy in video conferencing, lighting candles and clapping hands and asking the citizens to stay indoor doing nothing.

    1. Does Karnataka state has formulated any exist strategy?
    2. Do state have plans to compensate many unorganized sector employees without jobs?
    3. Do any compensation has been paid to the victim of the COVID-19 as per the guidelines of the 'Disaster management act,2005?
    4. Is state is capable to handle is there is second outbreak?
    5. Do state has enough PPE and how long the supply can last? Do state has placed any new orders?

The citizens of India have certainly learnt the value of life, having seen the devastation this virus has unleashed on the world. We can fairly say, our people are intelligent, some may be adamant not to adhere to the restrictions; but overall they all are quite adhering.

Therefore, the agencies must concentrate on instilling in the minds of the people what is requried to be safe; i.e take care of yourself. If each one does it, there is no need for lockdown. We need to run this country and our economy is in very bad shape. So, in order to catch up what is lost economically, we need to re-open our businesses and strengthen our economy for sure.

Nobody should be under impression the virus is going to go away soon. The purpose of lockdown is for goverment to borrow time and be prepared to handle the virus systematically. The government has to balance between economy and pandemic. After a certain period economic distress is going to bite swift and hard and more people will be affected due to economy.. If the government has not prepared to handle the pandamic after more than a month of lockdown, God protect all of us.

Being the Silicon Valley of India, when will international flights be allowed specifically between Bengaluru and San Francisco? Not every aspect of a business can be done remotely (or virtually).
Emirates Airlines has already taken steps to provide safe travel by disinfecting before each flight, COVID 19 testing of passengers at their hub in Dubai and other airports, seating in alternate seats, modified meals service, and no carryon luggage other than laptops and handbags. Are these safe enough steps for Bengaluru arrival and departures? I am very well aware that majority of the COVID 19 positive cases in Bengaluru have come through Dubai (directly or as transit passengers) in the last two months.

Certainly a wrong move if no relaxation for other business activities are included in this Lock down period.
The govt. need to look into the financial problems of middle income group people who doesn't get any freebies like BPL card holders get & their ability to survive is getting day by day eroded with no reciprocating freebies like gas refills, groceries, electricity bill or telephone payments we are forced to pay after U turn of announcing a 3 month moratorium.
I request CM to realize the above factor & then decide to relax certain bans in all areas except the sealed areas.

I have explained in my previous comments about fallibility of test kits & false positives, go through them why & this pandemic is more media blown out as mortality rate of the same is less than 1% till today.
Herd immunity you haven't heard about probably, go through that as well before phobia of media creation which will create mortality possibility in nearly 20% of people who are in the middle income group suffering without any help from govt. freebies with no income all these days.
Better sense will save, doomsday will end the economy & public unrest one can expect, only thing preventing this is the total enforcement by administration of rules without recourse for people to get relief even from courts at present.

Dev, forgetting all other reasons & their nos of deaths in India, only road accidents claim 400/day; which means, we have already saved 12,000 innocent people from perishing in road accidents in 30 days!

As you said, this is just a hype & hoopla created by media, & the CORONA conundrum has already turned into a CORONA healthcare phobia which was very undesirable! Today CORONA has pitted man against man; see the close neighbours & community people themselves r not allowing their bretherens bodies to be interred due to CORONA phobia! CORONA phobia if fuelled further can have unforeseen outcomes!
    Hope better sense prevails!!
