Mangaluru: Temperature dips as coastal Karnataka soaks in rain

Mangaluru, Apr 27: Several parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts received good rainfall coupled with thunder and strong winds on Sunday, April 26 evening. The rain was caused by the low-pressure area created over the Arabian Sea.

In addition to the city, Beltangady, Bantwal, Uppinangady, Puttur, Sullia, Suratkal and other places received good rainfall. Manipal, Padubidri, Karkala, and Kaup in Udupi district also experienced rain. The rain lasted for an average of 30 minutes to one hour at different places. Most parts of Bantwal taluk got heavy rainfall for an hour beginning at 5.45 pm.

The meteorological department has predicted a chance of rainfall to continue for two more days in the coat in the evening. The quantum of predicted rainfall is likely to be between 64.5 mm to 115 mm. The department said that Panambur recorded a high of 35 degree Celsius and low of 27 degree Celsius.

Due to lightning, the house of Balappa Gowda from Meenadi in Kutruppady village in Kadaba was damaged. A huge tree got uprooted near Tolithady Alankaru which blocked traffic for some time. A resident of Akkole in Neriya gram panchayat, identified as Shabbir, was injured due to lightning. Fallen tree and coconut tree damaged the house of Seethamma at Pullaje in Neriya village. Two quintals of areca nut and provisions stored inside the house were destroyed and the house was damaged.
