Mangaluru, Apr 23: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Kota Srinivas Poojary, has warned that those who attack doctors, police and ASHA workers discharging duties towards coronavirus eradication will be jailed and booked under the Goonda Act.
Poojary was speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, April 22.
"The government has viewed cases of assault on corona warriors seriously. We have given canes and revolvers to policemen to protect themselves, not as showpieces. We cannot tolerate an attack on these people. We have given instructions to take suitable steps against people trying to attack officials engaged in coronavirus related inspections," he said. He added that all the temples under the Muzrai department have been distributing food to the destitute.
On this occasion, a petition was submitted to the minister on behalf of Dakshina Kannada District Journalists' Union, urging the health department to conduct a health check of the journalists.
