Mangaluru: Items to prepare illicit liquor confiscated, case registered

Mangaluru, Apr 22: Excise officials in a raid conducted at an illicit liquor manufacturing den on the banks of Netravati river, Pavoor Uliya village, seized 2.5 litres illicit liquor, 900 litres of juice, 75 kg jaggery and tools meant for manufacturing liquor.

The raid was conducted on directions from deputy excise commissioner Shailaja Kote under the leadership of excise DySP Shivaprasad by excise inspector Seema, Rathnakar Rai, sub- inspector Pratibha G and all sub division staff.



A case was registered against accused Prem Feraro. Further investigations will be held by Mangaluru south excise inspector Rathnakar Rai.

    On USA also there's lockdown. But groceries, medical and liquor shops are open. Beer, wine can be purchased. But there's some restrictions on buying hard liquor. I think this can be done in our Karnataka State also.

    They are illiterates,uneducated so brewing illicit liquor. So that is not an offence.

    Just because Government doesn't earn revenue from homemade liquor...... They persecute their own people based on some loose morals... Politicians do daylight robbery and nobody cares.... But a poor fellow does it... It's a big crime..

    State is crying desperately for funds to tackle CORONA; but casually losing 60cr/day on excise, while black marketeer-corrupt officials nexus minting money; what logic is this??
    Do individual states need centre's nod for permitting sale during lockdown???

    Government should direct the excise department not to conduct any such raids during the lockdown period.. once the wine stores are opened the demand for illicit liquor will automatically come down.

    Looks like excise dept is not able to generate the revenue because of lockdown. Instead of sitting idle, they are after the poor local brewers. What it the revenue from these cases?? Its a petty sum. But it can be a huge personal benefit to individuals.
    I really dont know what is the need to shut down liquor shops during lockdown? If any other commodity can be bought by following social distancing, why not purchase of liquor. Revenue starving Govt can at least make some money from keeping liquor sale and production open. The problem is our mentality that liquor is not considered as part of one's food items.

    Government should seriously think to open the Wine Shops, MSIL or Private vendors at the earliest, rather than to blame Illicit Liquor Brewers.

    I really dont understand if one should laugh or cry looking at the excise police. Do they really think they wouldn't have known the existence of such a large operation all this time. If they say no, then they have no right to be in the excise department. Anything that ferments emanates a smell that goes a lot of distance. I am sure there is alot of pressure from the black marketeers to nab these home made liquor barons, because they are creating a huge dent in the black market business. Orelse why hasnt the excise department not been able to catch one black marketeer till date. Guys i suggest you stop all this drama. Open the wine shops and trust me you are killing two birds in one stone.

    Any chance is their to convert this illegal liquor/jaggery/juice into santizer!

    If so ,it will be handfull revenue/income to excise department.

    Live barrels standing near the synthetic barrels. This is the time for excise people and illicit liquor manufacturers . I feel it is better teach them how to make sanitizer.
