Madikeri, Apr 17: Excise officials who went to inspect allegation of illegal liquor sale at Alur Siddapur in Kodagu district were seen exchanging unparliamentary words and engaging in street brawl even as people looked on. The case has now been referred to the police station.
Excise deputy superintendent Shivappa had visited the spot and returned. Thereafter, excise inspector Nataraj and deputy superintendent Shivanna, came there and engaged in verbal friction over keeping illegal liquor dens under check. The two officers exchanged very vulgar words after which their fight turned physical. It is said that the driver of the vehicle Manohar also attacked Shivanna.
Some locals who recorded the fight in their mobile phones, soon shared them on social media and the video clip went viral.
A case in this respect was registered in Shanivarasanthe police station. Kodagu district excise commissioner N Bindushree, who made enquiries, sent a report to higher officials. It is learnt that she has recommended action against the above two excise officers.
