Udupi, Dec 16: The Anti-Naxal Force has started its combing operations against the naxals holed up in the thick forests of the Western Ghats spread across Udupi, Chikmagalur and Shimoga districts, from Tuesday December 15 onwards. The operation, which will last for three days, has been jointly taken up by the state reserve police, Anti-naxal Force and the civil policemen. The teams have been provided with Global Positioning System, enabling each other, to keep track of where the other teams are functioning.
It may be recalled, that over 1,500 policemen had been pressed into similar operation on November 10. During the last operation, the policemen had succeeded in striking closeness with, and gaining the confidence of, the people living in forests. Learning from the past experience, it is said, the police teams have been better-equipped this time, to handle any eventuality. However, the police teams believe that unlike last time, they would achieve something concrete this time.
