Udupi, Dec 15: Opposing the central government’s move to merge public sector banks, employees and officers of various banks will strike work for a day on Wednesday December 16, under the banner of All India Bank Employees Association and All India Bank Officers Association.
The members of the above two organizations, who form a major chunk of the work force in several banks, said that the move to merge public sector banks is against the interests of the country. State Bank of Indore’s board of directors has already approved a plan to merge itself with State Bank of India, which is being vehemently opposed by the union.
At 10 am on Wednesday, the bank employees will hold a demonstration in front of the regional office of Syndicate Bank here, informed general secretary of the district unit of the Bank Employees Association, U Shivaraya.
As the banks across the twin-districts have also a considerable presence of members from other unions, it is felt that the banks would be able to function normally. The unions of State Bank of India employees have not given any call for strike.
