Kasargod, Dec 14: The officials of Kasargod district civil supplies department led by the district manager of the department, P Venugopal, have seized 5.20 tonnes of wheat that was meant to be distributed in Kerala state through ration shops. The operation was conducted at Manjeshwar check post.
The wheat in question had been bought by Sun Food Products, for being distributed to ration card holders, from Kozhikode depot of the civil supplies department. The officials of the check post, who grew suspicious about the goods, informed the civil supplies department officials. The officials claim, that wheat was being transported to Karnataka for selling it in black market.
In the meantime, a person named Suresh, who runs a ration shop at Uppala, was intercepted while carrying a quintal of rice and two quintols of wheat out of the ration items supplied to his shop, in an autorickshaw to his home, by the people at Uppala town. The policemen have registered a case. Suresh however, managed to escape.
