Mangalore, Dec 6: Now it is time to take T-20 cricket to rural places in the districts of Udupi, Mangalore, and Coorg.
Mangala Sports Pvt Ltd is launching the ‘Mangalore Premier League (MPL)’ in February 2010 as a platform for talented cricketers to compete at the state and national level.
“The MPL is a window of opportunity for budding and talented next generation cricketers between 17 to 30 years of age. It offers the youth a platform to showcase their talent to the cricketing world. Mangalore Premier League is the largest youth brand for cricket in Mangalore today”, said Shashidar Kodical, managing director, Mangala Sports Pvt Ltd, speaking exclusively to Daijiworld.com.
The event will be organized at one of the best grounds of Mangalore, NMPT Ground, Panambur, on February 13 and February 14, 2010, under lights.
Eight teams and 150 players will play in the tourney. The cup will be played with auctioned teams from Kundapura, Udupi / Manipal, Karkala / Moodbidri, Suratkal / Mulky, Mangalore, Bantwal / Belthangady, Puttur / Sullia, and Madikeri.
‘The prime objective of the tournament is to identify and source talent from Mangalore, Udupi, and Coorg districts and offer young talented cricketers the opportunity to participate in tournaments organized in Karnataka like KPL, Ranji Trophy, and also BCCI organized IPL and other tournaments which helps brighten their future”, added Shashidar.
