Panaji, Dec 5: A head constable accused of sexually abusing a girl in police van along with two of his colleagues was placed under suspension today.
Superintendent of police Atmaram Deshpande stated that head constable Santosh Gawas was suspended from services.
The inquiry into the incident which occurred around ten months back was completed on Nov 4 by Calangute police Inspector Nolasco Raposo and report was handed over to Superintendent of Police (North) Bosco George.
Sources confirmed that the incident occurred in the patrolling police van when all the three policemen – a head constable and two constables – were on the duty.
All three accosted a girl standing at a roadside near Calangute beach, who was apparently a commercial sex worker, and asked her to fulfill their sexual desire failing which she would be arrested.
Police sources stated that one of the policemen had oral sex with the lady while two shot the clip inside the police van.
The case was brought to the notice of senior police officers after the clip was circulated amongst the state police cadre, sources stated.
The report, which is under wraps right now, has investigated all three policemen, who are found to be guilty. “They are not charged of rape but indiscipline,” a senior police officer stated.
When contacted, superintendent of police (PRO) Atmaram Deshpande confirmed the submission of report refusing to divulge further details.
