Udupi, April 3: Officials of the weights and measures on directions from deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha conducted surprise checks on vegetable shops, chicken shops and shops selling mutton here on Friday.
The officials registered two cases against those who were cheating by manipulation weights in items. They also inspected the grocery shops and registered a case over MRP rates. The officials collected a fine of Rs 8,000 from three cases.
The officials asked to display rates of vegetables in front of vegetable shops and directed that the traders should sell items according to accurate weights. They warned of strict action if rice, pulses, sugar are sold at exorbitant rates. They have said that checks will be conducted throughout the district.
The department of weights and measures assistant controller Gajendra V, Udupi inspector Ragya Nayak and Moodbidri inspector Manjappa BS took part in the operation.
