Margao, Dec 4: Goa Home Guards and Civil Defence Organization will be completing 42 years of its existence in the State of Goa on December 6, 2009. Inspector general of police, K D Singh will be present as the chief guest of a function being organized to celebrate the occasion.
Deputy commandant general of Home Guards D K Sawant, JSO Nandkishor Raikar, civil defence medical officer, Dr Paresh Lawande, and deputy controller of civil defence will also attend the programme.
The organization was set up in Goa in 1967. The director general of police/ ex-officio commandant general Home Guards and director civil defence, is the head of the department of Home guards and Civil Defence Organization. The strength of the Home Guards has gone up to 7,500 from 500, during the last 42 years. This increase in the strength of Home Gguards volunteers speaks about the rising significance of this Organization. The Organization has over the years, extended its activities to many other important services.
