Udupi, Mar 31: Udupi Nagarika Samithi and Pancharathna Seva Trust collectively with the help of some donors distributed clothes to various migrant workers who have settled in the premises of Board High School, Udupi.
Anand C Kallolekar commissioner, Udupi City Municipal Council distributed clothes to the workers. Before distributing the clothes, he stressed on the importance of practising social distancing, why the situation arose and how we could further avoid it by not coming in touch with one another.
Addressing the media he said, “The district administration and we have arranged breakfast, lunch and dinner. Most of the time some generous donors distribute breakfast, but if they do not then the administration looks after them. Today we distributed clothes to the migrant workers. We are trying our best to give the required facilities to these workers, in this campus we have provided them with toilets and bathroom facilities, we have also provided soaps, sanitizers. The administration is prepared to look after them until the lockdown period is over.”
Thanking all the donors Nithyananda Volakadu said, "Due to coronavirus entire nation is facing dark times. Several migrant workers are employed at various places in the city. Many of them do not have a proper place to stay, they do not have access to food and or other basic needs. For this reason, the Udupi district administration and City Municipal Council made all the arrangements to provide for them. Some people have joined hands with the administration to support the noble cause. The clothes donated today were by Patil textiles, Parkala.
Through the Trust, meals were provided to the underprivileged. Earlier in the week, food was also fed to stray animals.
