Bengaluru: '45 from Karnataka visited Nizamuddin mosque, 1 dead', confirms Sriramulu

Bengaluru, Mar 31 (IANS): One of the 45 pilgrims from Karnataka who visited Nizamuddin Jamaat mosque in New Delhi in early March died of COVID-19, said Health Minister B. Sriramulu on Tuesday.

"A religious ceremony was held at the Nizamuddin Jamaat mosque in New Delhi on March 10, which was attended by about 45 people from Karnataka. One of them was a man who died in Sira," tweeted Sriramulu.

Sira is located in Tumakuru district, 123 km north west of Bengaluru.

B Sriramulu

The pilgrim from Sira was a sexagenarian who passed away on Friday, he was Karnataka's third COVID-19 death.

He was the state's 60th Coronavirus positive case and his 13-year-old son also tested positive on Tuesday as the 84th case.

The Tumakuru man returned from Delhi on a train to Yeshwantpur on March 14 and from there he took a KSRTC bus to reach Sira the same morning.

The deceased man is believed to be one of those Tablighi pilgrims who visited Delhi, further official details are awaited.

According to Sriramulu, 13 of the 45 pilgrims have been identified and quarantined, hinting that the possibility of the infection spreading to all the pilgrims cannot be ruled out.

He said several visitors from Australia, Singapore, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia visited the Delhi mosque.

The state government is on the lookout for the remaining people who visited the mosque to quarantine and test them.

Considering the lack of seriousness on the part of certain sections of Indians, it is high time the government considers involving the army (with special powers) to firmly deal with those who, with their reckless behavior put their own as others' lives at risk.

There should be a thorough investigation on why such a gathering was organized during such a critical time. Even if the same was planned much earlier before the crisis started building up, it could have been postponed just like summer Olympics which will take place a year later.

    Chandu,
Do you think that hiding the irresponsibilities of the people in power will make you more patriotic? Be realistic man; and note that people were alerted in India only when the lockdown was ordered much later on 22nd March 2020. Before that, everyone was busy in their normal routine. They were totally unaware that they are about to face crisis of the century. And what do you think about whose responsibilty was to alert the public well is advance about the severity of the problem? Who has the ministries and resources? And you are telling that one should not blame the government. Then who is to blamed when the first case of virus infection was reported in January 30 and the government lockdown 2 months later?

The corona virus episode is an international event like world cup which was announced several years ago, and it is really “irresponsibility of people in power" which Mr.Chandu is “hiding “as you commented. This irresponsibility resulted in some” innocent guests unintentionally” causing virus risk.

Even if i am not connected to this religious organization and is critic of their principles, I genuinely feel that they should not be held responsible exclusively for the spread of coronavirus; because it was business as usual in India at that time of congregation and finally they failed to evacaute the people from Masjid because of the abrupt lockdown announced at 8 oclock in the night.

They are just another group like overseas travellers who unintentionally spread the virus unknowingly inside India. They would have been guilty if they had initiated their journey after the lockdown was announced.

But my Friend , all your Guests who came thiz event have falaunted the Visa Rules of India for which they have applied . Won't this call for a investigation by the MEA and should they feel necessary , book case against them and block their entry to India anymore and further if it is necessary , reccomend Govt to not allow such invents in future which may give free pass entry to unwanted anti social elements to our country . I hope you agree with this ?

May be my sentence was weakly framed that you misunderstood that I was referring to the foreigners. However, I have no problem to make friends with anyone as far as I like, I don't see the nationality while befriending with anyone.
I cannot comment on the foreigners as I don't even know what kind of visa they hold. It is the duty of the government and I cannot even comment on that.
Actually I was referring to the group of Indians in the congregation when I was not holding them responsible (like we cannot hold responsible the any other overseas NRIs as a group when they are the unintentionally became source of spread of virus in India).

The official congregation was scheduled on 1st March to 15th March and took place as per the schedule . About 3,400 had gathered for the congregation. Note that there was no lockdown announced by March 15th. So people stayed there as the government had not put any restrictions and it was usual life outside. But the Masjid immediately evacuated 2,000 people as soon as the government announced the lockdown; and then requested SHO (Station Head Office-Police) officially (I have seen the letter with the subject: “Regarding decongest Markaz Tableegh Jamath) to provide bus passes to evacuate the remaining people in the Masjid; while following the isolation guidelines inside the Masjid as far as possible. But they failed to get the help from the Police to transport the people in the Masjid (I know the police was also helpless). So finally the people inside the Masjid had no option but to stay at Masjid instead of getting stranded in the roads (as we can see today how the migrant workers are walking hundreds of kilometres with their babies and without food and money and what help/treatment they are getting from the government). Later they started to realize that that the people might be infected to the coronavirus.
So whom do you blame now? Do we have the courage to accept who failed to deliver in this whole episode?
Do you know that the Press Trust of India (PTI) had declared just on 13th March (just 2 days before the end of this Congregation) that "Covid-19 is not an Health Emergency"; QUOTING THE HEALTH MINISTRY.
So who holds the responsibility and has huge resources and power to guide the citizens about the coming danger in the right time? . How can the people gauge the severity of the coming danger? Do they dream of the coming danger when they are not informed by the concerned authorities?

You are giving the sequence of events as if you were present there and nothing serious has happened with business as usual without realizing the risk and threat these guys has now posed to the entire nation. Knowing situation ahead they should have cancelled or postponed the event to safeguard themselves and their families and public at large. Do you think the country you are residing now would have allowed such events in such dangerous critical times. Now wait and watch as to how the situation will continue because of mistakes of few. Don't blame the government and authorities for each and everything that goes wrong when the responsibility lies on the public too in situation like the present one. Only God can save people of this nation.

    Chandu,
You said that "Do you think the country you are residing now would have allowed such events in such dangerous critical times".
Even i am saying that same thing about why the Indian government announced the lockdown very lately. Without lockdown, no one will understand the severity of the crisis and will keep on following their normal routine. The government should have announced it very early. This would have put an end to the spread of virus.

    PB,
Dont you think that it was the duty of the ruling government to timely impose rules and guidelines and eduacte and make the people realize about the severity of the problem?
How can people decide that the problem is severe when Press Trust of India (PTI) announces that Covid-19 is not an Health Emergency even on 13th March 2020, quoting health ministry? people will surely look for their conveniency thinking that it is just normal according to governemnet announcement.

Just like those "law abiding and innocent guests" following the guidelines of isolation "as far as possible" there may be similar people in isolation in other "places of worship". Concerned authorities need to look into the matter without further delay, in order to control the virus whether it be corona or any other.

Exactly. You are to the point. The concerned authorities need to deliver their duties by transport those who are stranded and to conduct test and so on. That is the duty of public servants; not just eating subsidized food and enjoying lifetime freebies.

A change for the better has been under way of late, causing restlessness and resistance among the trouble makers. Such unjustified resistance should be nipped in the bud.

Kejriwal govt and Delhi Police of Central govt both are blaming each other for the development . Police cowki was located right beside ( about 50 mtrs) the Nizamuddin mosque but concerned are yet been ignored . The request from the organizers to shift the gathering in the community centres again been ignored and administration let turn the situation into worst. Anyways this is not only issue for granted but to move ahead and to watch out those stranded in thousands poor wagers who lelft Delhi and given sheltered in resorts without proper sanitization.
